Prayer Resources for Parents

Over the years, these resources have been super helpful for me as a mom. They have helped guide me in prayer for my kids while also enabling me to be more disciplined and intentional to pray for my kids.

Val Marie Paper Prayer Journals: This is the number one resource that has helped me intentionally pray for my kids. Each month you fill out the journal with prayer requests for: the world, your community, family, friends, self etc. There is also space to record answered prayers, write down scripture and journal. It is straightforward and simple and allows me to look back on how God has answered prayers over the months and years.

To Light Their Way:  This is a beautiful book by Kayla Craig. There are over 100 modern liturgies to help guide your prayers when words won't come. There are prayers for family milestones, times of transition, holidays, grief, and more.

The Power of a Praying Parent: Stormie Ortman's books have been staples in my prayer life for the last couple decades. I used her Power of a Praying Wife book in college to help guide my prayers for my future husband and now use it to pray for my husband. I use her book Power of a Praying Woman to help me pray through various struggles in my own life. In The Power of A Praying Parent, Ortman provides various topics, scripture and even written out prayers to help direct you in praying for your kids.

A Praying Life by Paul Miller: I worked on staff at a church in Dallas for 4 years after college, and one of our pastors had us read this book. It is the best book on prayer I have ever read. Paul Miller lays a beautiful foundation for thinking about prayer, tackles big questions that arise with prayer, and provides many practical ideas to help us grow in our prayer life.

5 Things to Pray for Your Kids: I like to leave this book (it's smaller) in my purse or car console and pull it out when I have a few minutes while I'm in line for school pickup, waiting at an appointment etc. This book helps you pray for your kids in 21 different areas and situations. There are 5 different ways you can pray for each area so you could take one of the prayer points each week and pray one point every day Monday-Friday.
